A cheaper, lower-capacity version of Apple's plastic-backed iPhone 5c is now on sale in Australia, China and Europe. The new iPhone 5c has 8 gigabytes (GB) of storage and costs $679 outright, compared with $739 for the 16 GB model, according to Apple's Australian online store.
Apple also updated its least expensive full-sized iPad model, now offering the fourth-generation iPad in place of the mid-range iPad 2 at the same price. The tablet has a 9.7-inch Retina display, a 5-megapixel camera and 16 GB of storage. The Wi-Fi-only model costs $449, while the model that supports both Wi-Fi and mobile data costs $598.
